The Toyota Yaris, Environmentally Friendly and Practical for 2008

toyota_yaris_liftback5spdmt_2008_exterior_5_346x270.jpgEnvironmentally friendly and practical, the 2008 Toyota Yaris is a great choice of car for the earth conscience buyer.  At a retail price of around $11,000, this is a car you can afford to buy with money left over for the gas.  This is not a hybrid or an electric car, but the Yaris is better on the environment because of the great gas mileage it gets.  The Yaris gets about 40 miles to the gallon on highways and 35 in the city, making the Yaris something to consider as gas prices rise dramatically.  We don’t necessarily want to drive small, practical cars, but this may be the way of the future so that we can continue to travel as we choose and not have to roll our coins to fill up the gas tank.

SAAB 2008 Concept Car - The 9-X BioHybrid

 saab9xbiohybrid.jpg

With the potential for 48 miles per gallon when using gasoline, the SAAB 9-X BioHybrid car may be just the concept car we are all looking to buy in the future.  With the cost of gas expected to rise even further than the already ridiculous price fo $3+ a gallon, car buyers will be looking for more affordable, more gas conscious cars.

This car contains an engine that produces  200 horsepower and can use either traditional gasoline or E85 for fuel.  E85 if a fuel that is made up of 15 percent gasoline and 85 percent ethanol. gasoline. With the E85, carbon monoxide emissions are much lower and miles per gallon is at 37 mpg.

The SAAB 9-X BioHybrid was recently showcased at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

What is a hybrid vehicle?

Simply put, a hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that uses two or more distinct power sources to make the vehicle run.  The point of creating hybrid vehicles is to create cars that are less toxic to the environment and more fuel efficient.  When a hybrid car is idling, the gasoline or diesel engine will shut down, allowing battery power to take over.  Cars that run on batteries are QUIET and do not emit the noxious emissions that gasoline or diesel powered cars do.  When a hybrid car runs at full power, both the electric and gas powered sources are tapped.

The Toyota Prius, at a price of $23,000 or less, is a great choice when you consider the average price for a car in it’s category is $28,000.  The Prius gets an average of 48 miles to the gallon which makes the average gas mileage for a non-hybrid (about 25 miles a gallon) look ridiculous.

The Toyota Prius was the first mass produced gas/electric hybrid in 1997 where it went on sale in Japan.  The Prius became available to the United States in 2000.  Easily, the Prius has become one of the most popular hybrid vehicles in the world.

Hybrid vehicles save precious fossil fuels that can be put to better use elsewhere.  Although a hybrid vehicle is not going to go from zero to sixty in less than ten seconds, a hybrid vehicle will help ensure that your children have clean air to breathe.
